  • Abstract

Sex and gender play a fundamental a role in health and illness, influencing the conditions and symptoms a person develops, the effectiveness of treatments and quality of care, and overall health outcomes. Despite this, biomedical, health, and care research often does not account for these key variables, with males typically being over-represented across cell, animal, and human studies and few papers presenting data disaggregated by sex or gender, or both.
