Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive overview of sex differences in the levels, treatment and control of major cardiovascular risk factors in the United States. It shows that the control of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia remained suboptimal in both sexes, with a lower prevalence of treated and controlled hypertension and diabetes mellitus in men and a lower prevalence of treated and controlled dyslipidemia in women. These findings are in line with other studies, which typically show that the management of hypertension is relatively more favourable better (or less unfavorable) in women whereas the management of dyslipidemia is more favorable in men.
